O my friends, as some of you know, I have written a book, Like Light from Stars. “Obsessive love, a nightmare journey, musical genius, a chain of abandonment…” The book follows seven generations of the same family in San Francisco, from 1849 to the present. I am prouder of this book than almost anything I’ve ever done, and I’m now starting on the enormous project of getting it published.
I had some promo copies printed—not for sale—and will send some of them to prospective agents and publishers. I sent some of the books to people I know who I thought would be interested. The response has been gratifying and enthusiastic. I’ll post some of the comments I get on this blog.
So the plan is that I’ll first try to get an agent interested in representing me, because you mostly can’t get books published by large publishers except through an agent. It is possible that my book, however wonderful, isn’t one that can be sold to a large publisher, and if that is so, the agents will know that and turn it down. I’m no expert—I don’t know, but I’ll give it a good try.
If I don’t succeed in finding an agent willing to try to sell my book to a large publisher, the next step will be to approach the smaller publishers directly. I feel sure that I can get the book published that way if I keep working on it.
This blog is so I can talk to you all about how the project is going, and about my book, of which I am so very proud, and how the book relates to my life, and about the writing life. Please, my dears, subscribe to this blog! It will help in my attempts to get potential buyers interested. Subscribe! Comment! Mention on Facebook! I’ll be way grateful.
